The Smith College soccer team lost to non-conference foe RPI, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon.Â
RPI pressured the Smith defense right from the opening whistle, recording six shots in the opening 10 minutes.
Grace Heine struck in the 34th minute for the Engineers and would stand as the only goal.Â
Smith had their best chance with just over a minute left in the game when
Kenza Mdarhri-Alaoui (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton)Â lost possession inside the box and
Kelly McKenna (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) came up with the loose ball. McKenna's shot was saved by a diving Joey Lyons.

The story of the match was Smith goalkeeper
Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) who had a career-high 19 saves. RPI goalie Joey Lyons stopped four in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GOAL: RPI 1, SMITH 0 – 34th minute:  Grace Heine ran onto a long ball sent to the left side by Jessica Dabney. Heine blasted a shot from 30 yards out that soared over Hall's outreach rand to the upper right corner of the cage for the 1-0 lead.
GAME NOTES
- The Engineers dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Smith 20-4 while also holding the advantage in corners 5-0.
- Ewka Varney (Portland, Maine/Deering) and Aisling Keane (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) made their first career starts in today's game.
- McKenna led the Smith offense with three shots on goal.
- RPI registered the first win in the first meeting between these two programs.
