FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

• The Smith College volleyball team aims for their first NEWMAC win of the season tonight when the Pioneers travel to WPI for a 7:00 p.m. match.

 

• The Pioneers' four-game winning streak came to an end this past weekend with losses to No. 20 MIT and Simmons.

 

• First year Caleigh Johnson (Georgetown, Tex./St. Dominic Savio Catholic) leads Smith with 78 kills while hitting .326. Defensively, Smith is led by Sakura Tamaki (New York, N.Y./Fiorello H. LaGuardia) who has totaled 121 digs this season.

 

• The Pioneers were selected to finish 10th in the Preseason Coaches' Poll while the Engineers were picked seventh.

 

• WPI is coming off a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Springfield College...In that match, Casey Hunt had 17 kills and 17 digs for the Engineers, Victoria Nassar was credited with 24 digs, and Azita Bakhtyari totaled 50 assists and 23 digs in the setback.
