FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

• The Smith College volleyball team aims for their first NEWMAC win of the season tonight when the Pioneers travel to Wellesley for a 7:00 p.m. match.

 

• Smith's last win against the Blue came during the 2005 season.

 

• First year Caleigh Johnson (Georgetown, Tex./St. Dominic Savio Catholic) leads Smith with 105 kills while hitting .306. Defensively, Smith is led by Sakura Tamaki (New York, N.Y./Fiorello H. LaGuardia) who has totaled 169 digs this season and ranks sixth in the NEWMAC in digs per set (3.93).

 

• The Pioneers were selected to finish 10th in the Preseason Coaches' Poll while the Blue were picked sixth.

 

• Juniors Michelle Li and Samantha Hoang were named NEWMAC athletes of the week on Monday...The Blue have won five-straight games with four victories coming against conference opponenets.
