The Smith College soccer team received goals from three different players en route to a 3-0 win over Western New England University in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.Â
Just 2:27 into the second half, McKenna put the Pioneers on the board on an unassisted tally, the first of her career.
Senior midfielder
Kenza Mdarhri-Alaoui (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton)Â doubled Smith's lead in the 78th minute, scoring her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
In the final minute of the game, junior midfielder
Pamela Larkin (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) and senior forward
Jordan Isaacs (Weston, Conn./Weston)Â teamed up to make it a 3-0 final score.
Senior goalkeeper
Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) made five saves in the win, while Alex Lemekha stopped three for the Golden Bears.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GOAL: SMI 1, WNEU 0; 47:27 - Mckenna carried the ball down the left side of the field and chipped it over the WNEU goalkeeper.
GOAL: SMI 2, WNEU 0; 77:21 - Mdarhri-Alaoui controlled a goal line pass from Matsuka and slipped it between the goalkeeper.
GOAL: SMI 3, WNEUÂ 0; 89:12Â -Â Larkin took a cross from
Jordan Isaacs (Weston, Conn./Weston) and placed it perfectly into the left corner of the cage.
GAME NOTES
- Smith outshot the Sharks (17-14) while Simmons held a slim 8-6 advantage in corners.
- The Pioneers improve to 3-0 against Western New England.
- Hall recorded her fifth shutout of the season and 13th of her career.
- Matsuoka and McKenna recorded their first collegiate points in today's victory.
