HARTFORD, Conn. - Senior captain Kelcie Finn scored three times to lead the Trinity College field hockey team to a 5-0 shutout of Smith College in the Bantams' season opener at Robin Sheppard Field on Thursday night.
Trinity came out of the gates aggressive, testing Smith starting goalie
Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) early, but Tietje held strong to keep the Bantams off the board. That was, until the 20-minute mark when Trinity earned a penalty corner to set up their first score of the evening. Sophomore Nicole Quinlan inserted the ball off the corner to sophomore Caroline Curtin who set it for Finn who sent a missile past Tietje for her first goal of the season.
The Bantams tallied four goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Tietje made four saves in the loss for the Pioneers. Lori Berger finished the evening with four saves for her first clean sheet of the year.
