NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College volleyball team totaled a season-high 23 service aces en route to a 3-0 sweep of Johnson State Friday evening at Ainsworth Gymnasium.
The Pioneers (2-2) dominated the match, holding Johnson State to a -1.52 hitting percentage.Â
It was a balanced effort for Smith which saw every player record a kill led by Caleigh Johnson's four.
Jody Huang (Cranston, R.I./Cranston) orchestrated the offense to the tune of 14 assists while
Maca Rojas (Santiago, Chile/Liceo No. 1 Javiera Carrera), Xela Miller, and
Michelle Wong (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) each finished with five digs.

SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
- The Pioneers totaled a season-high 23 service aces; the most since October 8 2011 when Smith registered 25 against Mount Holyoke.
- Sophomore Jody Huang (Cranston, R.I./Cranston) recorded a career-high 14 assists.Â
- Caleigh Johnson (Georgetown, Tex./St. Dominic Savio Catholic)'s served up a career-high six service aces.
- All players who appeared in the game recorded at least one kill.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
Leading 3-1,
Xela Miller (Grenada Hills, Calif./James Monroe) served up seven straight points, giving the Pioneers an advantage from the beginning. Smith maintained the lead for the remainder of the set, downing the Badgers 25-9.
SET 2
The Pioneers opened set two with four kills to jump ahead 5-1. After back-to-back points from Johnson State, Caleigh Johnson rattled off four service aces to give her team an 11-3 advantage as Smith would go on to win 25-10.
SET 3
A kill from Kaitlin Boucher brought the Badgers within eight at 17-9, but Smith closed out the set with eight consecutive points to sweep the match.
UP NEXT
The Pioneers host Dean College at 9:00 a.m. and Mount Saint Vincent at 1:00 p.m. on the second day of the Smith College Invitational.
