FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

• The Smith College volleyball team will host seven teams in an 11-match tournament Sept. 8-9.  Amherst, Dean, Gallaudet, Johnson State, Mount Saint Vincent, Suffolk, and Western New England will travel to Northampton to participate in the annual tournament.

 

• Smith kicks off the tournament Friday night with a game against Johnson State at 7:00 p.m. and will play Dean College (9:00 a.m.) and Mount Saint Vincent (1:00 p.m.) on Saturday.

 

• First year outside hitter Caleigh Johnson (Georgetown, Tex./St. Dominic Savio Catholic) led the Pioneers in the opening weekend at the Brandeis Invitational with 27 kills and five block assists. Junior setter Maca Rojas (Santiago, Chile/Liceo No. 1 Javiera Carrera) totaled 86 assists and 25 digs over three matches.

 

• This will be the first game in program history between Smith and their three opponents.

 

• Johnson State (0-2) and Mount Saint Vincent (0-1) aim to earn their first win of the season this weekend while Dean (1-1) looks to get above .500.
