The Lions improve to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while Smith dips to 8-4 and 2-2 in league action.

SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Guest-Pritchett dominated the paint finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds on 12-of-13 shooting.

EMERSON HIGHLIGHTS

  • Natalie Busch also added 19 on 6-of-9 shooting to go along with six boards, and five assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Smith took advantage of Emerson's slow offensive start and jumped out to an eight point lead (10-2) at the 7:19 mark of the first quarter and maintained a nine-point cushion (18-9) after Katy McClellan (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) sank a free throw at 2:19.
  • Within the last minute and a half of the opening frame, a jumper from Busch pushed Emerson to within four (19-15) to wrap the first 10 minutes.
  • Back-to-back triples from Foultz squared the score at 21-all at the 8:36 mark of the second quarter, but Smith answered with the next six points as a bucket from Sydney Koh (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) put the visitors back up by six (27-21).
  • A pair of three's from sophomore Quinn Madden (Mokena, Ill.) and Busch with 4:20 on the clock gave Emerson its first lead at 31-29.
  • Guest-Pritchett's trey capped off Smith's first-half scoring to put the visitors on top by three (37-34) with 32 seconds on the clock.
  • Emerson gained the half's final possession and capitalized as Busch sank another jumper with four ticks remaining and inched the Lions within one at 37-36.
  • The hosts outscored the Pioneers 20-15 throughout the third quarter as both teams kept the game interesting and locked the score up three times.
  • Both Savino and Foultz displayed their strength from downtown as the duo drained consecutive triples at 3:50 to kickstart a 10-2 spurt that allowed the Lions to carry a 56-52 lead into the fourth.
  • Smith kept themselves within striking distance and made it a one possession game after Holland sank a deep triple at 5:20 and pushed the Pioneers to within a pair (64-62).
  • Two was the closest Smith would come to overtake Emerson as the Lions used the charity line to their advantage, tacking on 13 of its final 19 points from the stripe.
