Field Hockey Wins Third-Straight With 3-1 Victory over Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. - Senior Bayleigh Bogan (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon) tallied a goal and an assist Thursday afternoon as Smith College defeated Lasell College, 3-1, in a non-conference field hockey game at rainy Grellier Field. The Pioneers went on to post their third straight victory, improving to 8-4 overall, while Lasell had its six-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 10-5.

HOW THEY SCORED

7:54 - SMITH - Junior Sammie Pavlov (Royersford, Pa./Westtown School) put the Pioneers on the board eight minutes into the game when she scored her ninth goal of the year on a rebound shortly after a penalty corner.

15:24 - SMITH - Bogan doubled the Pioneers lead after another penalty corner, taking a feed in the slot from the right side from junior Anna Ballou (Deerfield, Mass./Deerfield Academy).

47:44 - SMITH - Bogan set up junior Vivian Nelson (Edmonton, Canada/Strathcona) for her first goal of the season.
 
58:08 - LASELL - The Lasers finally broke into the scoring column when junior Sam Taylor scored on a penalty stroke in the 59th minute for her 10th goal of the season.

NOTABLE
  • Bogan recorded her third goal of the season and third assist of 2018.
  • First-year keeper Channy Cornell (Arlington, Tex./The Oakridge School) made four saves in a winning effort for Smith, while freshman Sofia Rodriguez made four saves at the other end for Lasell.
  • The Pioneers had an 11-8 advantage in shots and an 11-3 margin in penalty corners.
  • The Lasers had two other chances to score in the game but were denied by defensive saves by senior Beatrice Chaudoin (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) and sophomore Maura McGowan (Wall Township, N.J./Wall).
  • Smith improves to 2-0 all-time against Lasell.
