Soccer Tops Babson, 2-1

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Reilly Sullivan (Keene, N.H./Keene) scored the go-ahead goal in the 51st minute to help visiting Smith College defeat Babson College, 2-1, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field. Smith improves to 7-8-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the NEWMAC, while Babson slips to 5-7-2 overall and 2-4-0 in league play.

HOW THEY SCORED

26' - SMITH -
The Pioneers opened the scoring when Sullivan played a ball down the right wing for sophomore Jessica Matsuoka (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow), who took a touch before blistering a shot past the Babson goalkeeper at the near post for a 1-0 lead.

27' - BABSON - The Green and White wasted little time finding an equalizer though, as Jessica Fernandes cut back inside from the left wing and hit a 35-yard strike that went off first-year Naomi Falkenberg's (Sutton, Mass./Sutton Memorial) outstretched fingertips into the upper corner just 56 seconds later.

51 - SMITH - The Pioneers went in front to stay thanks to a penalty kick after sophomore Peyton McBride (Manchester, N.H./Goffstown) was taken down in the box less than five minutes into the second half. Sullivan stepped up and blasted the spot kick under the crossbar for her third goal of the season.
