NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Smith's second-half comeback fell short as Emerson College topped the Pioneers, 2-1, in a rain soaked New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Lions improve to 6-4-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play, while the Pioneers drop to 6-6-0, 1-3-0 NEWMAC).
HOW THEY SCORED
43' - EMERSON - The Lions forced a turnover by the Smith defense in their backfield and freshman Jennifer Van Pelt gained possession at the top of the 18. Van Pelt slipped a pass in between two Smith defenders to find senior Paige Haley who booted a shot over the keeper for the 1-0 lead.
73' - EMERSON - An unsuccessful clear by the Smith defense resulted in a shot by rookie Grace Goscrove at the top of the box that just snuck in the bottom left corner of the goal.
74' - SMITH - Sophomore 
Jessica Matsuoka (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) crossed the ball from the left side, finding 
Krissy Williams (Stockbridge, Mass./Monument Mountain) in the box for a beautifully executed header over the diving reach of the Emerson keeper.
NOTABLE
	- Williams' goal was her second of the season.
- Matsuoka picks up her first assist of the year.
- First year goalkeeper Naomi Falkenberg (Sutton, Mass./Sutton Memorial) made five saves in the loss.
- Emerson keeper Megan Rose stopped 16 for the Lions.
- Smith dominated possession, firing 18 shots on goal compared to just seven from the visitors
- The Pioneers earned five corners compared to Emerson's four.
- The Lions improve to 4-1-1 all-time against Smith.
