McBride Scores in 2-1 Loss to Wheaton

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Sophomore Peyton McBride (Manchester, N.H./Goffstown) scored for the Smith College soccer team in a 2-1 loss to Wheaton College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Lyons improve to 9-2-1, 2-2-0 on the season, while the Pioneers drop to 6-7-0 overall and 1-4-0 in conference play. Prior to the game, Smith honored their five seniors (Krissy Williams (Stockbridge, Mass./Monument Mountain Regional), Pamela Larkin (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos), Celia Tasho (Troy, N.H./Monadnock Regional), Maggie Pacheco (Montclair, N.J./Montclair), Ainsling Keane) for their commitment and dedication to the soccer program over the last four years. 

HOW THEY SCORED

32' - WHEATON - Chloe Troy put Wheaton on the board with an unassisted strike for her seventh goal of the season.

61' - WHEATON - Jaime Ratteni scored what proved to be the game-winner when she fired a shot into the net off a pass from Aymara O'Brien-Pappalardo for her first goal of the season.

68' - SMITH - The Pioneers cut the lead in half when sophomore Jessica Matsuoka (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) sent in a cross from the right side that connected with Peyton McBride (Manchester, N.H./Goffstown) who headed it to the back of the net.

NOTABLE
  • McBride's tally was her fourth of the season.
  • Matsuoka notched her second assist of the year.
  • Smith keeper Naomi Falkenberg (Sutton, Mass./Sutton Memorial) made seven saves, while Alexa Barbagallo made eight stops for the Lyons.
  • Wheaton held a 17-14 advantage in shots and 10-2 edge in corners.
  • The Lyons improve to a perfect 10-0 in the all-time series against Smith.
