Field Hockey's Pavlov Nets Overtime Winner at Simmons

BOSTON, Mass. - Junior Sammie Pavlov (Royersford, Pa./Westtown School) scored the game-winner as time expired in the first sudden-victory overtime period to give the Smith College field hockey team a 1-0 victory over Simmons College Tuesday evening. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 6-4 on the year, while the Sharks drop to 3-8.

HOW THEY SCORED

80:00 - SMITH - The winning strike came after it was awarded a penalty corner as time ticked to zero on the scoreboard. Sophomore midfielder Bryn Murray (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) inserted the ball to Pavlov, who sent a cross inside the circle to senior midfielder Bayleigh Bogan (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon), who gave it right back to Pavlov for a shot that found the back of the cage on the right side.

NOTABLE
  • Pavlov scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
  • Bogan's assist was her second of the year.
  • Pioneer goalkeeper Channy Cornell (Arlington, Tex./The Oakridge School) made two saves in the win compared to 14 stops for Sharks keeper Lucy McNamara.
  • Smith held a 24-2 advantage in shots and a commanding 14-1 edge in on penalty corners.
  • The Pioneers improve to 7-1 all-time against the Sharks.
