Field Hockey Eases Past Keene State, 4-1

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College field hockey team concluded their non-conference schedule with a 4-1 win over visiting Keene State College Wednesday evening. The Pioneers improved to 10-7 with the win, while the Owls drop to 14-5.

HOW THEY SCORED

3:11 - SMITH - Junior Neva Richardson (Rehoboth Beach, Del./St. Andrew's School) grabbed a pass from junior Anna Ballou (Deerfield, Mass./Deerfield Academy) at the stroke mark and pushed it passed KSC goalkeeper Rachel Loseby. 

27:15 - SMITH - Junior Maura McGowan (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) sent the insert on a corner to senior Alex Larosee (Warwick, R.I./The Wheeler School) who sent it in to Ballou. Ballou redirected the pass to McGowan who swept it into the back of the net.

38:40 - KEENE STATE - Ally McCall's initial shot from the top of the circle was blocked by the Smith defense but she gathered the loose ball and rifled a shot into the cage.

43:34 - SMITH - Morton dribbled 20 yards through the Owls defense and ripped a shot from the top of the circle to the left side of the cage.

64:14 - SMITH - The Pioneers converted on their final corner of the evening as junior Sammie Pavlov (Royersford, Pa./Westtown School) took the insertion pass from the top of the circle and dished it left to senior Raegan Stokes (Watertown, Conn./Kent School) who slotted home a shot for the final goal of the game.

NOTABLE
  • Ballou's two assists brings her season total to six.
  • Morton, McGowan and Richardson each scored their first goals of the season.
  • Senior Raegan Stokes (Watertown, Conn./Kent School) tallied their second goal of the year.
  • Smith keeper Channy Cornell (Arlington, Tex./The Oakridge School) stopped seven shots, while Rachel Loseby and Jordan LaRaus each played a half and combined for seven saves.
  • The Pioneers put together a solid offensive performance, outshooting the Owls 15-10 and taking seven of the game's 13 penalty corners.
  • Smith improves to 3-11 all-time against Keene State.
