Tennis Falls to Wellesley in NEWMAC Opener

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Wellesley College in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both team teams Saturday afternoon at the Indoor Track and Tennis Facility.

Smith drops to 1-7 overall and 0-1 in conference action. This was the second match of the season against Wellesley as the two teams met at the Seven Sisters Championship last month.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue opened the day with a clean sweep in doubles competition. The duo of Allison Ahern and Joanna Kim played to an 8-4 loss at the No. 1 slot to Justine Huang and Selina Peng.

Wellesley continued their domination at singles, winning all six matches. The most competitive match of the day came at No. 2 singles position where senior Sam Peikes battled Selina Peng, but ultimately fell 6-3, 6-4.

UP NEXT
The Pioneers return to action Tuesday, March 27 at Springfield College for a 4:00 p.m. match.
