NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Junior
Sammie Pavlov (Royersford, Pa./Westtown School) scored both goals for the Pioneers but it was not enough as the Connecticut College field hockey team earned a 3-2 win over Smith College Wednesday evening. The Pioneers drop to 1-3 overall with the loss, while the Camels (1-2) earn their first win of the season.
HOW THEY SCORED
21' | CC | Jamie Navoni recorded an unassisted tally to give the Camels a 1-0 lead.Â
23' | SMITH | On Smith's fourth corner of the night, junior
Vivian Nelson (Alberta, Canada/Strathcona) inserted the ball to the top of the circle where it was swung around to the right side. Pavlov waited at the stroke mark and was able to control the ball and fire a shot to the back of the net.
29' | CC | Enya McGarry sent a shot from the top of the circle that was deflected into the cage by Caroline Ferro.
47' | CC | Jamie Navoni sent a cross pass to a wide open Meghan Gazard who lifted the ball over the diving Smith goalkeeper to give her team a 3-1 lead.
54' | SMITH | A scrum in front of the Connecticut College goal gave the Pioneers a penalty stroke opportunity late in the game. Pavlov would take the shot and placed it perfectly to the outreached stick side hand of the Camels goalkeeper.Â
