Soccer Begins NEWMAC Play with 1-0 Win Over Wellesley

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Sophomore Etienne Oliver (Portland, Ore./The Catlin Gabel School) delivered the game's only goal as the Smith College soccer team opened New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action with a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 5-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in league play, while the Blue drop to 3-3-0, 0-1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

64' | SMITH | Oliver broke through the back line on the dribble and drilled a shot into the back of the net.

NOTABLE
  • Oliver's goal was the first of her career.
  • First year goalkeeper Naomi Falkenberg (Sutton, Mass./Sutton Memorial) made two saves in her third shutout of the season.
  • The Pioneers owned a 16-5 advantage in shots and 9-4 edge in corners.
  • Smith improves to 25-15-4 all-time against the Blue.
