NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College soccer team held on for a 3-2 win over SUNY New Paltz Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. The Pioneers improve to 1-1-0 on the season while the Hawks drop to 0-2-0.

28' | SMITH | First year Zufan Bazzano's (Great Barrington, Mass./Monument Mountain) shot from inside the 18 was deflected by the keeper back into the box. Bazzano collected the rebound and shot from straight on.

55' | SMITH | First year Maggie Boyle's (Milford, Mass./Milford) free kick was uncontrolled in the box, deflecting off multiple players. Bazzano gained control to find the back of the net for her second goal of the game. 

77' | SMITH | Aisling Keane (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) scored what would prove to be the game-winner when her shot deflected off a SUNY New Paltz defender into the goal.

84' | NEW PALTZ | The Hawks got on the board when Danielle Angyal found the back of the net off a pass from Kaitlyn Connolly.

88' | NEW PALTZ | With under three minutes remaining in the contest, Rachael Purtell played the ball into the box where Connolly touched the ball into the goal to cut the deficit to one.

NOTABLE

• Zufan Bazzano's (Great Barrington, Mass./Monument Mountain) goal was the first of her collegiate career.
• Kean's tally was also the first of her career.
• Jeannette Boudway picks up her first win as a head coach.
• Naomi Falkenberg (Sutton, Mass./Sutton Memorial) played the full time in goal, collecting two saves.
• Smith held an 8-2 edge in corners and 18-4 edge in shots on goal.
• The Pioneers improve to 2-0 all-time against New Paltz.
