NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Junior
Anna Ballou (Deerfield, Mass./Deerfield Academy) scored the game-winner and added an assist as the Smith College field hockey team handed Wellesley College a 3-2 setback in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action Saturday afternoon. Smith improves to 4-3 on the season and 2-0 in league play, while Wellesley drops to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the NEWMAC.

2:56 - SMITH - Junior
Sammie Pavlov (Royersford, Pa./Westtown School) corralled a save from the Wellesley goalkeeper on the right side of the cage and ripped a shot to the back of the net.
26:35 - WELLESLEY - Junior Hannah Maisano sent a pass in from the top of the circle to senior Arielle Mitropoulos who was waiting at the stroke mark. Mitropoulos spun around and slid her shot to the right side of the goal.
29:02 - SMITH - Junior
Morgan Handwerger (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) won possession from a Wellesley defender and passed it back to Ballou for a quick shot into the cage.
34:41 - SMITH - Ballou lifted the ball and found sophomore
Jenine Jacinto (Oceanside, Calif./Mission Vista) who was waiting on the left side of the net to slam a shot past the diving Wellesley goalkeeper.

- Jacinto's goal was the first of her career.

- First year goalkeeper Channy Cornell (Arlington, Tex./The Oakridge School) made zero saves and improves to 5-4 on the season.

- Smith held the advantage in shots, 14-1 and penalty corners, 10-1.
- The Pioneers improve to 25-33 all-time against the Blue.
