WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore Sofia Orrico scored both goals in WPI's 2-0 victory over visiting Smith in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer match Saturday afternoon inside Alumni Stadium. The Engineers (7-4, 1-2 NEWMAC) collected their first conference triumph of the season while the Pioneers dip to 6-5 and 1-2.
HOW THEY SCORED
25' - WPI - Orrico collected the ball from the defense and booted a long-range chance past the keeper.
77' - WPI - Orrico intercepted the ball and snuck past a defender before finding the back of the net.
NOTABLE
- Smith sophomore Jessica Matsuoka (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) accounted for two of the team's three shots, and lone shot on-goal at 66:24.
- Pioneer rookie goalkeeper Naomi Falkenberg (Sutton, Mass./Sutton Memorial) halted seven shots.
- Overall, WPI owned a 22-3 margin in shots and was awarded seven of the game's eight corner kicks.
- The Engineers improve to 14-4-2 all-time against the Pioneers.
