NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Kiera Alventosa scored with 4:19 remaining in the second overtime to lift Amherst College to a 2-1 win over Smith College in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 10:07 - SMITH - Breaking through in the first quarter, the Pioneers claimed a 1-0 lead after drawing a penalty corner opportunity. Senior Sammie Pavlov (Royersford, Pa./Westtown School) accepted a pass from Bryn Murray (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) at the top of circle and slipped it past the opposing netminder.
  • 23:32 - AMHERST - Netting the tying score, Alventosa found the back of the net to round out the scoring in regulation
  • 75:41 - AMHERST - After being awarded their lone corner of the second overtime, the Mammoth's initial shot from the right side was saved but the rebound trickled to the wide open stick of Alventosa who pushed it to the back of the cage.

GAME NOTES
  • Amherst now holds a 31-10-3 series advantage over the Pioneers
  • Between the pipes, Smith sophomore goalkeeper Channy Cornell (Arlington, Tex./The Oakridge School) made seven saves in the loss
  • The Mammoths held a 19-12 advantage in shots and 9-7 edge in corners
