Lynn Hersey picked up her 200th career Smith victory as the Pioneers earned a 76-57 win over Anna Maria College in the opening game of the Smith Holiday Classic Sunday afternoon at Ainsworth Gymnasium. Four Pioneers scored in double figures as Smith is off to its best start in program history.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- First-year Amelia Clairmont (Laconia, N.H./New Hampton School) led the way with 13 points and three treys to go along with four rebounds and three assists
- The trio of sophomore Katelyn Pickunka (Westhampton, Mass./Hampshire), first-year Ally Yamada (Seal Beach, Calif./Fairmont Prep Academy) and classmate Jessie Ruffner (Rocklin, Calif./Rocklin) each finished with 10 point
- Sophomore Dashelle Gleissner (Los Angeles, Calif./Serra) added seven boards and a game-high nine assists
- For the visitors, Amber Wilson totaled 24 points on five made threes
GAME NOTES
- This was the first-ever meeting between these two schools
- Pickunka scored in double figures for the ninth time in 10 games
- The Pioneers outscored the Amcats 28-13 in the third quarter
- Smith shot 48.4 percent (30-of-62) from the field and 50.0 percent (8-of-16) from three-point range while holding a 38-26 advantage in rebounds
