NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College basketball team is off to its best start since the 1995-96 season after an 89-40 victory over MCLAÂ Saturday afternoon at Ainsworth Gymnasium.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore Katelyn Pickunka (Westhampton, Mass./Hampshire)Â led the Pioneers in scoring with 18 points on 6-of-7 schooting from the field and 6-of-7 mark from the free throw line.Â
- Sophomore Dashelle Gleissner (Los Angeles, Calif./Serra) filled the box score with 11 points, eight assists and four steals.
- Junior Karena Garcia (Tucson, Ariz./Flowing Wells) put up five points in her first action of the season.
- First-year Morgan Morrison (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Country Day) hauled in a team-high seven boards.
GAME NOTES
- Smith improves to 3-0 all-time against the Trailblazers
- The Pioneers shot a season-best 65.3 percent from the field and tied their season-high with eight made three-pointers
- Smith dominated the glass 52-25
- Gleissner ranks first in the NEWMAC in assists (47) and is third in steals (22)
- Pickunka leads the NEWMAC in scoring (19.1 ppg) and field goal percentage (.721)
