PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Smith College lacrosse team cruised to a 15-3 win over Fitchburg State Thursday evening in non-conference action to close out their spring break trip. With the victory, the Pioneers are off to the best start in program history at 5-0.
SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior Clelie Fielding (Francestown, N.H./High Mowing) finished with a game-high five goals and three ground balls.
- Senior Chloe Harris (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) added three goals and three assists.
- First-year Alyssa Schams (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) made two saves in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Smith College opened the contest with a 3-0 advantage on two markers from sophomore Emily Briggs and one goal by senior Chloe Harris (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) before Fitchburg State cut the lead to 3-1 as junior Tracy Long connected on her fourth tally of the season.
The Pioneers would respond with junior Maddie Ryan (Scituate, Mass./Scituate), Harris, junior Bella Ferraro (Orange, Conn./Amity), sophomore Kaitlin Chu and senior Clelie Fielding (Francestown, N.H./High Mowing) adding tallies for the 8-1 margin going into the break.
Following the intermission, junior Molly Cote netted her first goal in the Green and Gold uniform to cut the lead to 8-2, but Smith answered back on a pair of scores from Fielding and one by Harris and Ferraro. Freshman Julia Miele connected on her team-leading sixth goal of the 2019 campaign for the Falcons (13-3) before the Pioneers capped the scoring as Fielding netted back-to-back markers, resulting in the 15-3 final.

Smith will return to the northeast and travel to Worcester State on Wednesday, March 20 at 6:00 p.m.
