NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Smith College senior
Alyssa Pioggia (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow) recorder her 100th career hit in the Pioneers New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader against Emerson Friday. The visiting Lions earned an extra innings 6-4 win in the opening game. The second game was stopped in the top of the seventh inning due to darkness with Emerson leading 11-9.
GAME 1: SMITH 4 EMERSON 6 (8 Innings)
- The Pioneers took a two run lead in the first innings off a two run homer from Eryn Lee (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga).
- Emerson pushed three runs across the plate in the sixth. The Lions scored on a bases loaded walk followed by RBI singles from Myranda Bourque and Morgan Mitchell.
- Smith tied the game Pioggia scored on Makena Wagner's (Hilo, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools Hawaii) single to right field.
- In extras, Emerson plated two runs for the win.
- Wagner, Lee, and Stephanie Konas (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) each finished with two hits.
- Wagner (2-3) suffered the loss, allowing two runs in 2.2 innings of work.
GAME 2: SMITH 9 EMERSON 11 (Top 7)
- Smith exploded for six runs and took a 6-0 run after three innings. Pioggia collected her 100th career hit on an RBI single to center field in the top of te third.Â
- Emerson got on the board with two runs in the fourth both on errors by the Smith defense.Â
- The Pioneers extended their lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth, but the Lions added seven runs in the fifth and sixth for a 10-8 lead.Â
- With Emerson leading 11-9, the game was suspended in the top of the seventh fue to darkness.

Smith will travel to WPI Saturday for games at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
