Lacrosse Cruises to 23-10 Win at Emerson

BOSTON, Mass. - Senior Chloe Harris (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) netted five goals and added an assist to propel the Smith College lacrosse team to a 23-10 win over Emerson in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers snap their four-game losing streak and improve to 8-5 overall and 2-3 in the NEWMAC, while the Lions fall to 0-7 and 0-4. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Emily Biggs (Florence, Mass./Northampton), Clelie Fielding (Francestown, N.H./High Mowing), and Bella Ferraro (Orange, Conn./Amity) also score hat tricks, with each player scoring three.
  • Reese Gittelman (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Preparatory) had two goals and three assists for the Pioneers.
  • Kelli Mark scored three goals for the Lions while Julia Mallon, Jenna Tomsky, and Camille Mumford each scored two.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Smith jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven goals in the first eight minutes of the game.
  • The Lions scored the next two, one from Mark and Mumford, cutting the lead to 7-2 10 minutes into the game.
  • The teams traded goals in the remainder of the first half, with Smith keeping the Lions at Bay.  The score went into the break with Smith holding a 14-8 advantage.
  • Smith came out of the break scoring five unanswered goals, before Tomsky and Mumford scored back to back for the Lions.
  • The Pioneers closed out the game with four goals, giving Smith the 23-10 victory.
