WORCESTER, Mass. -- WPI defeated Smith 3-0 in a NEWMAC volleyball match-up on Tuesday evening. The Crimson took the match by set scores of 25-12, 25-15, 25-23. The Engineers, winners of two straight, improves to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play while Smith dips to 3-9 on the season and 0-2 in NEWMAC matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
WPI never trailed in the opening set and was only down once in the middle stanza en route to racing out to a 2-0 lead. The third set was nip-and-tuck throughout with 14 ties, the final of which at 23-23. From there the hosts took control and closed out the match with consecutive kills by Wetmore and Kwatinetz.

Evi Evgeniou (Thessaloniki, Greece/Pinewood International) chipped in with 10 assists, five digs,four kills and a pair of service aces.

Jody Huang (Cranston, R.I./Cranston) finished with nine digs

Kimani Freeman (Newark, N.J./Montclair Kimberly Academy) added four kills and eight digs

Smith returns to the court on Saturday, hosting nationally-ranked Babson and Keene State in a tri-match that begins at noon.
