HARTFORD, Conn. - After building a 13 point lead in the fourth quarter, the Smith College basketball team staved off a late rally to knock off Trinity College, 58-51, Thursday evening in Oosting Gymnasium. With the win, the Pioneers remain unbeaten at 12-0 to continue their best start in program history.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore forward Katelyn Pickunka (Westhampton, Mass./Hampshire)Â notched her third double-double of the year with 14 points and 10 rebounds
- First-year guard Amelia Clairmont (Laconia, N.H./New Hampton School) chipped in 13 points off the bench
- Classmates Jessie Ruffner (Rocklin, Calif./Rocklin) and Ally Yamada (Seal Beach, Calif./Fairmont Prep Academy) each finished with 11 points
- The Bantams were led by Peace Kabari's 10 points and 10Â boards
GAME NOTES
- Smith improves to 11-31 all-time against the Bantams and have won the last three meetings
- The Bantams held a slim 39-36 edge in rebounds
- Smith shot 37.0 percent (20-of-54) from the field, while Trinity was 18-of-57 (31.6%)
- The Pioneers are 12-0 when holding a higher shooting percentage than their opponents
