NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College lacrosse team cruised to a 16-0 non-conference victory over visiting Gordon College Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers last shutout came March 18, 2017 against Newbury College.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Senior Bella Ferraro (Orange, Conn./Amity) led the way with three goals, eight ground balls, and five caused turnovers.
- Sophomore Reese Gittelman (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Preparatory)Â tallied three and added an assist.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Schams (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) made four saves in 30 minutes of action and was replaced by senior Abby Edwards (New York, N.Y./Stuyvesant) who stopped one shot in the second half.
- Smith dominated the game with a 30-7 advantage in shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Smith's offensive output began early and often as the Pioneers went up 4-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game on goals by Gittelman, first-year Stella Alphas (Weston, Mass./Weston), and sophomore Bryn Murray (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury).Â
- In the closing minutes of the first half, Ferraro went back-to-back to give Smith a 9-0 cushion at halftime.
- The Pioneers continued to press and received tallies fromsix different student-athletes for the 16-0 final.
