NORTHAMPTON, Mass.- The Smith College soccer team celebrated their seniors Naomi Falkenberg (Sutton, Mass./Sutton), Maggie Boyle (Milford, Mass./Milford), Zufan Bazzano (Great Barrington, Mass./Monument Mountain), and Micky Kohavi (Los Angeles, Calif./Taft Charter) at their match against Clark University on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- (11:01) Senior goalkeeper Naomi Falkenberg (Sutton, Mass./Sutton) had a show-stopping opening to the first half. Falkenberg made four saves in the first 15 minutes of play including an impressive tip-save over the crossbar. Â
- (29:43) - Smith 1 Clark 0 - Senior Zufan Bazzano (Great Barrington, Mass./Monument Mountain) was able to connect after back-to-back breakaways. Bazzano, known for speed in the striker position, had an open run down the middle of the pitch and placed the ball cleanly in the upper right of the Cougar's net.
- (56:40) - Smith 1 Clark 1 - The Cougars were able to draw and convert a penalty kick taken by Sarah Berube.
- (72:44) Smith 1, Clark 2 - A 30 yard free kick for Clark set up a dangerous play in front of the cage, where the ball ricocheted off of diving Smith keeper Alexandra Osuna (San Diego, Calif./San Diego) and found its way across the goal line.
GAME NOTES
- First-year Goalkeeper Alexandra Osuna (San Diego, Calif./San Diego) made a career high five saves while tallying a career high in minutes played (70).
- With the four saves today, Falkenberg is now ranked 5th in Pioneers history for career saves (232).
- The Pioneers were able to even out some of the stat lines in the second half, edging out the Cougars in shots 4-3 and managing to get a corner kick.
