NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College volleyball team continued to roll, picking up two more wins on Saturday, defeating Hamilton 3-2 and Bates 3-0 to cap an undefeated 2021 Volleyball Hall of Fame Weekend.
With the wins, the Pioneers stand at 21-7, clinching their first 20-win season since 2013.
Hamilton Match Highlights
- Smith defeated the Continentals by a score of 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 25-27, 25-19, 15-13) and earn its first win over Hamilton since 2001
- Olivia Smith (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) led the Pioneers with 16 kills and 17 digs while Abby Sweeney (Spring, Tex./Klein) totaled 10 kills
- Nathalie Pak (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) had 26 assists for the Pioneers, who got 17 digs from Gabby Beckman (Aurora, Colo./Grandview)
Bates Match Highlights
- Smith put away the Bobcats in three sets (25-16, 25-10, 25-20), grabbing their first victory against Bates since 1995
- A balanced attack saw the team hit .330 with 39 kills
- Sarah Dankovich (El Paso, Tex./Coronado) (eight kills) and Kinsey Cronin (Medford, Minn./Medford) (eight kills) were the offensive leaders along with Pak (16 assists)
- Beckman had 12 digs to lead the squad
UP NEXT
Smith will return to action Tuesday evening as they host Springfield in a key NEWMAC match that will determine home court advantage in the upcoming conference tournament.
