Morrison's Double-Double Leads Basketball Over Trinity

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Smith junior Morgan Morrison (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Country Day) scored a career-high 20 points and pulled down a career-high15 rebounds in the Pioneers' 65-58 win over Trinity College Sunday afternoon.

Smith gets back in the win column and moves to 5-1 this season while the Bantams fall to 2-2.

Top Performers
  • Morrison went 8-14 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line to finish with 20 points and 15 rebounds
  • Katelyn Pickunka (Westhampton, Mass./Hampshire) notched her second double-double of the year with 13 points and 10 rebounds on 5-8 shooting
  • Jane Loo (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) came up clutch, finishing with nine points on 3-3 shooting from long distance off the bench
  • Dashelle Gleissner (Los Angeles, Calif./Serra) added a team-high seven assists

Game Highlights
  • A dominant first half propelled the Pioneers to the eventual win on Sunday afternoon
  • Morrison scored the final seven points of the quarter to giive Smith a 20-12 lead after ten minutes, and the Pioneers pushed the lead to as many as 14 points on Gleissner's three at the buzzer to end the half
  • Smith extended its lead to 19 (54-35) on Loo's third trey of the quarter but the Bantams chipped away and would trail by 54-42 at the end of the third
  • Trinity didn't go away in the fourth, closing the game to seven points on a three by Tori Varsamis with 1:32 left to play
  • Elle Jo Whalen (Woodinville, Wash./Woodinville) stopped any hopes of a comeback with an offensive rebound and putback in the final minute as Smith would go on for the 65-58 final
  • The Pioneers shot 40.7 percent fom the field and dominated the glass, 40-26
