HENNIKER, N.H. - The Smith College basketball team mounted a 22-3 run in the third quarter to come from behind and defeat New England College, 68-48 in a non-conference matchup Friday evening. Senior Elle Jo Whalen (Woodinville, Wash./Woodinville) recorded her second double-double in as many games for the Pioneers.

Smith improves to 8-1 on the  year, while the Pilgrims drop to 7-5 overall.

Top Performers

• Whalen finished with 11 points, 15 rebounds and two assists
• Senior Dashelle Gleissner (Los Angeles, Calif./Serra) tallied four points, nine assists and two steals
• Sophomores Jessie Ruffner (Rocklin, Calif./Rocklin) and Ally Yamada (Seal Beach, Calif./Fairmont Prep Academy) chipped in 10 and 11 points, respectively

The Pioneers are off until Thursday, December 30 when it hosts Keene State College at 1:00 p.m. on day one of the Smith Holiday Tournament.
