NORTHAMPTON, Mass.- The Smith College soccer team fought until the final whistle in their 2-1 loss to Western New England University Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- 18th Minute (17:59): Smith 0 WNE 1 - WNE opened up the scoring with a header from Autumn Hathaway at the far post delivered from a corner kick.
- 30th Minute (29:12): Smith 1 WNE 1 - Smith responded with an assist delivered from outside the box by Hannah Hutton (Germantown, Tenn./) to set up Kelsey Cahill (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) for a flick in just passed the goalie's  fingertips.
- 68th Minute (67:11): Smith 1 WNE 2 - WNE regained the advantage with a second chance goal by Danielle McCarthy that began with a free position from the top of the 18 yard box and rebounded off of the goalie's hands.

GAME NOTES

• Junior Kelsey Cahill (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) tallied her first career goal as a Pioneer.
• This was WNE's first victory against the Pioneers since the teams began competing in 2015.
• Smith's senior goalkeeper Naomi Falkenberg (Sutton, Mass./Sutton) faced 11 shots and recorded 6 saves.
• WNE senior Autumn Hathaway scored her first goal of the season.
