HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 - A string of four-straight points from Smith made it 10-4 after a block from Cronin and Pak as the Pioneers cruised to a 25-15 win.
Set 2 - After a back-and-forth start where neither team could pull ahead, Lasell grabbed its first lead of the match at 17-16 after a kill from Camila Lopez. Smith responded by scoring four of the next five points secured the set on a kill by
Olivia Smith (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais).
Set 3 - A kill from
Fiona Hegarty (Tustin, Calif./Foothill)Â stretched Smith's lead to 19-14 as the Pioneers never looked back and closed out the match, 25-20.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- First year Kinsey Cronin (Medford, Minn./Medford) chipped in 10 kills, five blocks and two aces
- Junior Gabby Beckman (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) collected a team-high seven digs followed by Olivia Smith's (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) five
- Junior Ava Zollinger (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) powerd the Pioneers with six blocks
- First year Nathalie Pak (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) totaled 13 assists, while classmate Lily Mearsheimer added 10
