NORTHAMPTON, Mass.- A goal in the final minute of the first half propelled the Smith College soccer team to a 3-0 win over Nichols College in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 45th Minute (44:34): Smith 1 Nichols 0 - Sophomore Avery Kaplan (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) put Smith on the board with under 30 seconds remaining in the first half when a feed from Hannah Hutton (Germantown, Tenn./) sailed past the Nichols defense and Kaplan touched it by the keeper.

- 70th Minute (69:19): Smith 2 Nichols 0 - Sophomore Emma Sadle (Portland, Ore./Catlin Gabel) doubled Smith's lead when she tracked down a loose ball off a corner.

-85th Minute (84:07): Smith 3 Nichols 0 - Sophomore Cydney Owens (Albany, N.Y./Albany Academies) rounded out the scoring for the Pioneers as she controlled the ball 25 yards out and tipped it over the head of the Nichols netminder.

GAME NOTES

• Smith owned a 17-5 advantage in shots on goal and 3-1 edge in corners.
• Senior Naomi Falkenberg (Sutton, Mass./Sutton) and junior Noemi Howland (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) combined for the shutout.
• The Pioneers now own a 2-1 all-time series advantage against Nichols
