Smith Basketball Runs Past Hamilton, 67-34

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College basketball team rolled to a 67-34 victory against Hamilton College in non-conference play Tuesday evening in Ainsworth Gymnasium. The Pioneers have now won nine-straight and improve to 13-1 on the year. The Continentals fall to 8-9.

How it Happened

  • After a closely contested first quarter where both teams struggled to shoot from the field, Smith exploded for a 23-point quarter and limited Hamilton to just five points on 1-of-10 shooting
  • Leading 12-11 at the end  of the first, the Pioneers opened the second period on a 12-0 run to make it a 24-11 game midway through the quarter
  • Smith's largest lead of the half came on a pair of free throws by Ally Yamada (Seal Beach, Calif./Fairmont Prep Academy) and the home team would go into the locker room holding a 35-16 advantage
  • The Pioneers maintained their comfortable cushion throughout the second half as a layup by Tiffany Hooker (Fulton, MD/Reservoir) with a minute to go in the fourth resulted in the hosts' largest margin of the night, 67-32

  • Jane Loo (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) knocked down three treys to finish with nine points
