Basketball Races Past Mount Holyoke for 11th Straight Win

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - A dominant first quarter propelled the Smith College basketball team to an 85-27 win over Mount Holyoke College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup Saturday evening in Ainsworth Gymnasium. The Pioneers improve to 15-1 on the year and 4-0 in league action. 

How it Happened
  • Against the Lyons, Smith started fast and never looked back, racing out to a 30-2 lead after the first quarter
  • The Pioneers advantage grew to 62 on Jane Loo's (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) trey midway through the fourth quarter

Inside the Numbers
  • Sophomore Ally Yamada (Seal Beach, Calif./Fairmont Prep Academy) led the way with 12 points and added two assists and two steals
  • Jane Loo (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) and Morgan Morrison (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Country Day) each finished with 11 points, while Tiffany Hooker (Fulton, MD/Reservoir) and Cassidy Creager (Fairview, PA/Villa Maria Academy) totaled 10 points apiece.
  • Loo grabbed a game-high eight boards and knocked down 3-of-5 from three-point range
  • Smith connected on 75.5% (37-of-49) of their shots in the game and held MHC to just 28.9% (11-of-38) from the field
  • The Pioneers held advantages in rebounds (27-7), bench points (57-5), and points in the paint (36-8)
