SPRINGFIELD - The Smith College field hockey team suffered a 1-0 loss to Springfield College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tilt Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers drop to 8-8 and 4-3 against conference opponenets, while the Pride improve to 7-8, 4-3.

Game Notes

• Springfield turned on the pressure immediately and was awarded a pair of corners in the opening two minutes of the game
• Molly Collins drilled a shot towards the cage that Majka was able to redirect in the net for only goal of the contest
• The hosts nearly doubled its lead in the 42nd minute when Lily Depew unleashed a shot on the run, only to have Rory Harper (Wayne, Penn./Radnor) make an incredible kick save to keep it a one-goal game
• Harper finished with four saves
• Karlie Guimond (Hatfield, Mass./Smith Academy) took three shots for the Pioneers
• Smith held a 5-4 edge in corners, while each team registered seven shots
