Connecticut College Bests Lacrosse, 18-3

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College lacrosse program dropped a non-conference matchup with Connecticut College, 18-3, on Thursday evening. 
The loss dips the Pioneers to 2-3 on the year, while the Camels improve to 2-0. Connecticut College outshot Smith 35-13.

Top Performers
  • In the cage, Alyssa Schams (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) pulled in 10 saves on the evening
  • Sydney Havlick (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) scored two goals, increasing her season total to eight
  • Reese Gittelman (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Preparatory) and Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) each totaled two caused turnovers

How it Happened
The Camels started off the game with two quick goals, taking a 2-0 advantage with 8:03 remaining in the first half. Havlick netted the first Pioneers score to make the game 2-1 at the 6:40 mark. From there, Connecticut College rattled off seven-straight goals to carry a 9-1 lead into the break. 

Out of the half, Havlick found the back of the net for her second score of the game just 1:25 into the third period. The Camels would string together eight more goals for the 17-2 lead. Jennie Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) notched one for the Pioneers in the closing minutes of the game as would Conn. College's Mae Emerson.

The Pioneers will travel to Hartwick on Saturday, March 12 at 1:00 p.m.
