LEESBURG, Fla. - For the first time in 1,054 days, the Smith College softball team returned to the field to open the 2022 season at The Spring Games held at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex. The Pioneers toppled Augsburg, 9-3, before a 9-1 loss to Farmingdale State on Sunday. With the split, Smith begins the season 1-1.
Smith 9, Augsburg 3
- Lucy Helms (Alameda, Calif./Alameda) earned the win in the circle as she scattered five hits in five innings of work before Abbey Fletcher (Bethany, Conn./Amity Regional) came in for the final two innings
- Juno Shantz (Seattle, Wash./Garfield), Maddie Swain and Meredith Moore (Caro, Mich./Caro) each registered two RBI
Smith 1, Farmingdale State 9
- Kaitlen Beals (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) walked two and gave up six runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings
- Lucy Helms (Alameda, Calif./Alameda) finished 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI
