Softball Falls to Millsaps and Wisconsin River Falls

LEESBURG, Fla. - The Smith College softball team lost both of its games on day three of The Spring Games. The Pioneers fell to Millsaps 4-2 before a 12-10 defeat to Wisconsin River Falls in the second game. 

Smith 2 Millsaps 4
  • The Pioneers went up 1-0 in the first as Molly Taketa (Redmond, Wash./Woodinville) scored on a Juno Shantz (Seattle, Wash./Garfield) double to center field
  • With the game tied 2-2 in the seventh, Millsaps doubled its lead on a 2 RBI single from Mackenzie Fleming
  • Taketa went 2-for-3 with two runs scored
  • Kaitlen Beals (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) took the loss in the circle surrendering two runs on six hits with four strikeouts

Smith 10 Wisconsin River Falls 12
  • After smith took an early 1-0 lead, the Falcons' bats put together two-run innings in the first, third, and fourth innings, and took a 10-4 lead after a five-run fifth inning
  • Smith rallied in the sixth, scoring six runs to trim the UWRF lead to 11-10, but an RBI double in the bottom half put the Falcons up 12-10
  • CeCe Alainiz and Eryn Lee (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga) each got two hits for the Pioneers
  • Lucy Helms (Alameda, Calif./Alameda) gave up six runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in four innings of work

Smith returns to the field on Thursday, March 17 with games against Kalamazoo (9:15 a.m.) followed by a matchup with Bowdoin at 11:30 a.m.
