ONEONTA, NY - The Smith College lacrosse program fought its way to a 12-9 non-conference victory over Hartwick College on a chilly Tuesday evening. The Pioneers improve to 5-4 on the season, while the Hawks dip to 3-3.

How it Happened
Hartwick got on the board first but the Pioneers responded with three unanswered goals by Sydney Havlick (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley), Jennie Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) and Reese Gittelmen to take a 3-1 lead into the second quarter.

Just two goals were scored in the second, one by each team, to send the teams to the locker room with the score 4-2 in favor of Smith.

The Pioneers came out strong in the third quarter as Bella DeAngelo (Portsmouth, RI/Moses Brown School), Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) and Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) gave Smith a 7-2 advantage. Hartwick responded with two goals but Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) would find the back of the net to make it 9-5 entering the fourth.

The Hawks rallied to pull within two, 11-9, with 4:06 remaining but Jennie Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) added an insurance goal and the Smith defense held strong to preserve the 12-9 final.
