NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College tennis team defeated Emerson College, 7-2, Saturday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match. The Pioneers improve to 6-6 overall and 2-4 in league play, while the Lions fall to 6-11 and 1-6.
Doubles Highlights
- Lili and Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest)Â took down their opponent at the No. 1 position, 8-4
- Olivia Mono and Miranda Gibson (Bethlehem, PA/Moravian Academy) earned a hard-fough 8-7 (11-9) win at No. 3
Singles Highlights
- The Pioneers earned five singles victories for the 7-2 final
- Lili Goshgardian cruised at No. 1, 6-1, 6-1, while Clara Goshgardian toughed out a three-set win at No. 2
- Alexa Monos (Reading, PA/Wilson) and Miranda Gibson (Bethlehem, PA/Moravian Academy) each defeated their oppononent and Olivia Monos (Reading, PA/Wilson)Â fought her way to a come-from-behind win at No. 4
