SOUTH HADLEY - The Smith College volleyball team began NEWMAC action with a resounding straight-sets victory over crosstown rival Mount Holyoke Tuesday evening. The Pioneers won by set scores 25-16, 28-26 and 25-19 and improve to 6-2 on the year and 1-0 in conference.

• Abby Hunt (Mandeville, LA/Fontainebleau) led the Smith attack with 11 kills on 14 attempts (.714), while Abby Sweeney (Spring, TX/Klein) and Mia Moscicki (Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) contributed nine and eight kills respectively
• Claudia Poehlmann (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) finished with five blocks and Nathalie Pak (Lexington, MA/Lexington) added 10 assists
• The Pioneers hit .452 with just one error in third set
• Smith has won its last three meeting against MHC and improves to 51-21 all-time in the series
