CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Smith College volleyball team fell to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival MIT, 3-0 (29-27, 25-18, 25-21), in their final regular season game of the season.
The Pioneers shift to 16-12 and 5-6 in conference play while the Engineers improve to 26-4 and 9-2.
Highlights
- In the first set Smith held a narrow edge at 14-12 until MIT recorded six unanswered points to claim the lead 18-14
- With the Engineers ahead 21-17, the Pioneers delivered a four-point surge to tie MIT 21-21
- MIT was at set point with a 24-21 advantage until a push from Smith induced another tie at 24-24
- The Pioneers was one point away from clinching the victory at 26-25 but the Engineers were able to take the first set 29-27
- MIT jumped out to an early 15-4 lead in the second set
- The Engineers continued to hold a significant edge claiming the second set 25-18
- In the third frame both teams exchanged in back-in-forth play until the Pioneers held a slight 14-12 advantage
- MIT recorded a seven-point run to claim the lead 19-14
- Smith responded with a strong offense, tallying six unanswered points to take the edge 20-19
- The Engineers posted six of the next seven points to finish the set 25-21 and secure the 3-0 sweep

- Leading the Pioneers attack was Abby Hunt (Mandeville, LA/Fontainebleau) with a match-high 17 kills (.438) while Sarah Dankovich (El Paso, TX/Coronado) posted 13 kills (.276)
- Ruby Woodward (Winchester, MA/Winchester) recorded a career-high 37 assists for Smith
- The Pioneers finished the afternoon hitting .229
