BROOKLYN, NY - The Smith College basketball team drained a season-best 14 three-pointers as the Pioneers pulled away from Brooklyn College, 73-46, Saturday afternoon.
Ninth-ranked Smith improves to 7-1 on the year, while the Bulldogs fell to 5-3 overall.
Inside the Numbers
- Senior guard Ally Yamada (Seal Beach, CA/Fairmont Prep Academy) finished with 24 points and tied her career-high with eight 3-pointers
- Graduate forward Sofia Rosa (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) poured in 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for her second-straight double-double
- First-year guard Hannah Martin (North Andover, MA/North Andover) posted nine points to go along with career-highs in rebounds (9) and assists (7)
- Smith shot 42.9% (27-of-53) from the floor, 41.2% (14-of-24) from three-point range, and 62.5% (5-of-8) from the free throw line
- Brooklyn went 33.9% (21-of-62) from the field, just 18.2% (2-of-11) from long distance, and 40% (2-of-5) from the free-throw line
- Smith's 14 shots from beyond-the-arc rank third in the record books for three-pointers made in a game
Game Highlights
- The Bulldogs took a 6-4 lead four minutes into the first quarter, but Smith responded with back-to-back three pointers by Selam Maher (Hopkins, MN/St. Louis Park) and Yamada to kickstart a 15-2 run to make it 19-8 at the 2:45 mark. Brooklyn got a layup as time expired in the quarter to pull withing 24-13.
- After exchanging baskets to open the second quarter, both teams went scoreless for nearly three minutes before a layup by Virginia Johnson (Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) put Smith ahead 28-17. Smith ended the final 6:05 on a 13-5 run to lead 41-22 at the half
- The Pioneers stretched the gap to 26 with 5:38 in the third, and would hold a 53-31 edge going into the final period.
- A 10-2 run from the Bulldogs in the fourth made it 60-43 with 4:03 remaining, but the Smith offense was too much to handle

Smith will break for the holidays and resume action as hosts of their annual tournament on Saturday, December 30 when the Pioneers host University of Saint Joseph at 1:00pm.
