NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College soccer team opened the 2023 season with a 1-1 draw against UMass Boston Friday afternoon. Both teams begin the year 0-0-1. 

Highlights

• Karenna Kung (Salem, CT/Salem) broke the scoreless tie on a pass from Kyla Warner (Katy, TX/Tompkins)
• In the 62nd minute, a Smith foul gave the Beacons a chance to get even on the PK that Caleigh Sullivan converted

• The Pioneers held a 7-3 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks
• Noemi Howland (South Pasadena, CA/South Pasadena) made two saves in net while her counterpart Julia Cote turned away two Pioneer shots
• The goal for Kung is the first in their career
