Smith Volleyball Powers Past Salve Regina with Dominant 3-0 Victory

Northampton, MA — On Tuesday evening in Ainsworth Gymnasium, the Smith College volleyball team extended their winning streak by defeating Salve Regina 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-16) at Ainsworth Gymnasium. The Pioneers, now 17-5 overall and 5-1 in NEWMAC play, showcased their depth and strength on both offense and defense to dominate the match.

Highlights

  • Smith came out strong in the first set with a balanced attack.
  • Abby Hunt (Mandeville, LA/Fontainebleau) and Mia Etheridge (Half Moon Bay, CA/Half Moon Bay) led the offense early, with Hunt finishing the set with 15 kills and Etheridge adding 11.
  • Smith took control late, with key blocks from Anna Feuer (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) and Miranda Oakes (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco University), sealing the set 25-21.
  • Salve Regina fought back in the second set, with six ties throughout. However, Smith's offense, led by Taylor Gwynne (Chapel Hill, NC/Carrborro), remained consistent.
  • Gwynne registered 38 assists, helping Smith pull away late to take the set 25-22 after a well-placed service ace by Olivia Smith (Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais).
  • Smith dominated the third set, hitting a .444 percentage as a team.
  • Abby Sweeney (Spring, TX/Klein) added nine kills on the night, while Feuer contributed six blocks, helping the Pioneers secure a 25-16 victory and complete the sweep.
