NORTHAMPTON - Emma Newman (Clarks Summit/Abington Heights) recorded her second shutout of the year and Callahan Day (Shady Side, MD/Elizabeth Seton) scored the game-winner as the Smith field hockey team earned a 1-0 win over Wellesley Saturday on Senior Day.

Game Highlights

• After an evenly played opening half, Day received the ball in the circle and dribbled in before flicking it by the Wellesley keeper in the third quarter
• The Smith defense withstood three corners in the final period to complete the shutout
• Newman made five saves in the victory
• Smith held a slight edge in shots, 10-9, and corners, 7-6
